Do you wear teeth grinding guard? Teeth night guards are an effective way to protect your teeth from the effects of teeth grinding. Custom teeth grinding guard will protect you from teeth chipping or cracking, headaches, sleep disruption, and jaw pain.

Nightguards, however, don’t last forever. It is essential to replace your night guard when the time comes to ensure that you continue to benefit from wearing the night guard.

Signs that you need to change your night guard:- It is important to remember that the lifespan of different night guards differs based on factors such as the design, type of material used as well as the thickness of the night guard. The lifespan of the night guard is also dependent on how severe your grinding is and your level of care for your night guard.

There are, however, various general signs that you should look out for to determine whether it is time to change your night guard.

  • The night guard no longer fits correctly:- A custom teeth night guard helps to provide the perfect fit. It ensures the most exceptional comfort when you wear the night guard. However, your night guard will begin to weaken and succumb to normal wear and tear over time. It will lose its ability to fit snugly. You may also need to get a new night guard if you have had dental procedures that resulted in the change of your dental alignment or structure such as veneers, fillings, implants, or crowns.
  • There are cracks, holes, and tears in the night guard:- Teeth night guards succumb to wear and tear over time. Your night guard may develop small cracks, holes, or tears as a result of the grinding. These will leave the surface of your teeth vulnerable to damage from the clenching and grinding. You will need to replace your night guard to ensure that your teeth remain protected.
  • The night guard is causing irritation and sores in your mouth:- Do you wake up with sores in your mouth? Sometimes cracks and tears in mouth guards are too small to notice. If your night guard has developed small cracks or tears, they could be irritating the tissue in our mouth. Bacteria trapped in these cracks can infect your gums or mouth.
  • The night guard has changed in color:- Regular cleaning of a nightguard is vital to prevent the breeding of bacteria. Improper washing or drying of the night guard can result in the buildup of bacteria. That, in turn, can lead to discoloration. If you’re unable to clean this discoloration off, it’s time to buy a new night guard.

Be sure to replace your night guard as soon as you notice any of the signs above. It will ensure you enjoy the benefits of wearing a nightguard.
