3 Key Methods to Construct Green Buildings

In today’s tech-savvy world, it has become a rather essential requirement to inculcate an eco-conscious mindset, especially in building offices and professional workspaces. This is usually done by hiring green building professionals and seeking sustainable building certification due to the rise in the professional accountability towards the environment.

The need for Green Buildings

A professional workspace or personal apartment opting for green buildings is a step towards being environmentally conscious. Earth, in today’s date, is undergoing its worst crisis, which is climate change, which is the effect of years’ long practice of depleting natural resources and continuous abuse of the environment with practices like deforestation and exhausting the non-renewable resources. While climate change has been an ongoing phenomenon, it is facing its worst in today’s day and age which has led the next generation to question their existence and future in an atmosphere as such.

There is a global outcry for the same, but very little is done in everyday life to combat it. As a result, there is even little to pass on to the next generation making their life practically impossible on earth.

Ways to construct green buildings

While hiring a green building professional is your best option to construct one, here are a few methods that you can be mindful of in your everyday life or otherwise while constructing a building yourself.

  1. Location- Hunt for the best location that will suit your needs. Depending on the place you live in and its atmosphere, warmer or cooler look for the best location facing or against the sun depending on if you want a comparatively cooler or warmer place to stay in. This will reduce the emission of your heater or air conditioner which shall otherwise have to work against the climate. Similarly, lookout for a place that has essential stores or amenities in the walkable distance which will reduce the usage of your vehicles and in turn the vehicular emission.
  2. Fixtures and furniture- Be mindful of the fixtures and furniture that you would use in your room. the smaller the room, the better. A larger and bigger room is likely to cost you and the environment more in terms of keeping the room’s temperature or cleaning. It is also important to install well-finished fixtures like windows, a leaky window allowing the air to leak would result in increased heating or cooling instruments being used for maintaining the temperature. For similar reasons, the insulation of the room is a must. Investing in proper insulation would not only be viable for the atmosphere but also be easy for your pockets.
  3. Products- Using environmental friendly products is a must when considering a green building. Most appliances these days come with energy star ratings which help you decide which one would be the most energy-efficient. The best alternative is to use as few products as possible, however, it is understandable that some appliances are rather necessary. Nevertheless, when you do opt for appliances picking the ones that offer significant energy savings without compromising on its performance is the best alternative.

Other products like kitchen faucets and bathroom appliances should also be carefully chosen. Faucets that are structurally made to help save water or electronic faucets that allow the water to run only when it’s needed, cut down on your water usage. Toilet fixtures like dual flushes, that allow reasonable water usage depending on liquid or solid waste, are often neglected methods by which water can be conserved.

These are largely the key methods through which everyone can contribute to an environmentally friendly future and combating climate change by reducing the carbon footprint.
