FrSky Receiver Review

Choose the Right FrSky Receiver for your fixed wing build – We will discuss the requirements of fixed wing receiver, which is the best fixed wing frsky receiver, and its feature list, signal output, and why you should choose the following receiver for your fixed wing construction and flight confidence.

What is fixed wing?

Fixed wing is an aircraft that uses thrusters to push air onto the wing, which creates lift forces to achieve forward flight speed. The air above the wing (a special shape of the wing, which produces velocity differences in the air moving up and down) will produce upward force on the wing itself, which will cause the lift to lift the aircraft up. Unlike a rotating wing, the rotating wing is used to generate lift.

RC fixed wing is similar, in fact almost identical, but not using an engine to create forward thrust. We usually use BLDCM and lithium battery as power and servo system to control flaps, such as elevator, yaw, aileron, etc.

What type of receiver is the best fixed wing?

Fixed wings are usually fully manual and have no stability, as pilots like to control their aircraft completely. Unlike a four axis or other variant, fixed wing vehicles do not need any flight controllers to maintain stability. The natural aerodynamics of the fixed wing are sufficient to keep it stable in the air.

Since the remote pilot likes to control their fixed wings completely manually, because all the electrons use PWM signals on the aircraft, the most suitable receiver will work with a lot of PWM output.

Frsky X8R Pro PWM Receiver

The X8R series receiver will undoubtedly be the most widely used PWM receiver in the market. The X8R series receivers have an 8PWM output available, which is usually more than one standard fixed wing, and has S.B EBUS when redundant, you want to add a redundant receiver for additional prevention.

The built-in smart port connector is useful for connecting too many sensors and outputs, such as GPS sensor, alti sensor, etc. This can give you accurate spacecraft sensor data on Taranis radio via Lua script.

The X8R series receiver is also a full range receiver, which means you can use the full range of frsky radio, which can reach 1.5km or more according to the environmental conditions.

Although most pilots like manual control, some remote pilots like the shuttle’s rich text (return) function, and some may prefer automatic level. Flight control is crucial for these functions, but if they only like automatic level (automatic stability), FlySky proposes a receiver that allows pilots to use automatic levels on their aircraft.

Stable Frsky s8r PWM Receiver

The perfect fixed wing frsky receiver, in my opinion, will be the frsky s8r receiver.

This receiver is basically identical to the X8R series receiver in form factors and pinouts and PWM outputs (8CH), but as an additional advantage, it has an integrated three-axis stabilizer! (technically it is six axis, because it has a triaxial accelerometer and a three-axis gyroscope)

For our standard fixed wing and glider, this receiver will support stable, automatic horizontal, hovering and blade modes, while for delta or wing and v-tail models, it will support stable and automatic horizontal flight modes. The model and its features can be easily configured through the s8r. Configure or s8r. Lua on your Taranis radio station, which makes it easy, while on the scene because you don’t need to carry your laptop with you:). In addition to these features, the s8r can obviously be used as a standard 8CH X-Series receiver if once required.

Frsky recommends that this receiver be used in series with the main receiver as a slave receiver for RC links to improve security.

Unlike the X8R receiver, the s8r uses a common antenna, not a plastic encapsulated PCB antenna. Channels 1 to 6 should be for your ailerons, elevators, throttle, rudders, ailerons 2 and elevator 2, respectively, because of what internal MCU is used to control the control surface.

We’ve seen two of the best fixed wing frsky receivers – frsky X8R pro and frsky s8r. The former can be used as a standard PWM receiver for full manual control, while the latter can be used as an airborne stabilizer without a flight controller. The receiver you choose will depend on the type of flight you like.
