The Smartphone Industry
A whopping trillion-dollar market that is governed by 3 main players in the industry namely Apple. Samsung and Huawei are facing the biggest clash of their time. It started slowly and gradually as Huawei started penetrating the USA with its cell phone.
Apple and Samsung underestimated their competitor and made way for its entry without preparing for countermeasures. This cost both the industry leaders a huge chunk of their sales. Huawei quickly captured the market with its budget cell phones targeted to the middle-lower class of the society that would accept a high-end cost-effective cell phone with open arms.

If you think that this was just another friendly battle between two rivals then you are gravely mistaken. The fight between Apple and Huawei has spread beyond just healthy competition.
1. Huawei’s Power!
A new and sudden name that swept the consumers, sure knows how to market its self. With products that offer high-end features at economical rates, Huawei took the market with a storm fooling all those who underestimated it.
Being the 3rd largest cell phone manufacturer in the world Huawei shipped 132 million smartphones by the end of 2016 and 240 million by the end of 2019 showing a huge increase in its purchase and brand loyalty.
And why wouldn’t people buy Huawei? If Apple and Samsung continue to make a fool out of their customers, the consumer would shift to others.
2. Product Line for Huawei and Apple

Looking at the above table, it’s no rocket science to figure out that Huawei is going hard against Apple. Not only the product line but the prices for Huawei products are low and the features are a rival to the best of Apple’s products.
3. Why was Huawei so successful?
Huawei’s success is no magic or miracle. It is a result of careful planning and strategic moves that helped the company land on all the right spots and make its way into the hearts of its consumers.
The US market was being catered unfairly. The high class to elite preferred iPhone. The middle to high class choose Samsung cell phones. While the lower class had to save up money to buy the cheapest Samsung phone and wait 3-4 years to receive the features of their flagships.
Huawei acted on this opportunity and targeted the lower to middle-income users in the start with flagship-level features. This boosted their sales and increased their brand loyalty and revenue.
4. Political heat between the countries.
The burning fire between Apple and Huawei was ignited when the Director finance and the daughter of the founder and CEO of Huawei was arrested in Canada. The arrest was made under the suspicion that Huawei has broken the sanctions imposed on Iran. The Chinese embassy in Canada strictly condemned this action and demanded immediate release.
USA’s interest lies in the success of Apple. Since this trillion-dollar company is one the major source of USA income. This is why President Trump advised Tim Cook to migrate Apple’s production from China to increase job opportunities in the US.
And if all of that wasn’t enough to bring down Huawei, google stopped providing its play store services as well. And salt to the wounds when the US president accused Huawei of stealing technology from T-Mobile.
At the moment Huawei seem like a phoenix that is in its burning phase and we all know what happens when a phoenix turns to ashes (It comes back stronger)
Huawei’s counter-attack might bring down android with IOS!
If Apple and Samsung are the kings of the cell phone industry than Google is the Ace in the deck. After the ruthless attacks on Huawei from Apple and the government of the United States, the Chinese smartphone industry revolted against this. With a 21 % share of the cell phone market in the US all Chinese cell phone manufacturers joined hands with Huawei on its new plan to take down the royal flush.
Huawei’s side-stepping from google can make android better altogether. As of now androids only competitor is IOS. But this new war between the USA and China has led Huawei to disrupt the market by announcing its own OS called Harmony (Great name considering the situation). This has strong chances of being more trouble than google and Apple had imagined. With its Operating system, Huawei would save millions in cost and could offer even cheaper cell phones than before with maximum flagship features!
Conclusion:
The battle of the giants is shaping our technological future and we are in for many surprises. The only ones that are making benefits from all this right now are the consumers. Cheaper cell phones and a new operating system would bring down the costs of high-end cell phones. Or this could be the end of Huawei like blackberry and Nokia.
