Laminated Veneer Lumber or LVL is engineered lumber that is usually used for beams, headers, rim joists, and material used on forming edges. It is far more advantageous than conventional lumber. It is a very recent innovation. It is created using multiple layers of thin wood bonded together with heavy-duty glue. Since it is manufactured under a controlled factory environment, it is stronger, straighter, and more uniform than conventional lumber. Plywood has been used widely since the early 20th century but the LVL come into widespread use near the mid-1980s.
Advantages of LVL over Conventional Lumber:
It is not quite easy to say that LVL is better than conventional lumber in every aspect but in many areas like strength, wider application, and safety from rotting & infestation by termites, etc. LVL surpasses conventional lumber with a huge gap.
Right now LVL is used in many industries and has become very widely used lumber due to its many properties. If you require lumber then it will be a good idea to give a thought to the LVL once.
